A New York scandal, a riot on a ship, and an evening of insanity in a concert hall are some of the problems resulting from Groucho's outrageous business schemes. The goal, to bring Milan's finest opera stars to Manhattan.

As a child, before I understood anything about political correctness or the fight for equality, I thought the Marx Brothers were hilarious princes of puns & physical comedy. Having recently reviewed this old classic, however, I admit, some of it rankled my sensibilities, & I'm not just talking about the musical numbers. Comedy was very different 80 years ago. If you can embrace that this film was made in a different era, by a very different culture from our current reality, it goes back to being a funny little glimpse of the past.
Of the Marx Brothers' work, A Night at the Opera was always one of my favorites. The skit between Groucho & Chico trying to read & agree upon a legal contract still cracks me up.
