In this book a boy lose his father while living in Tenesse. His mother marries another man and they move in to the Wyoming territory. Adam has a hard time getting along with his new father Sam, but one day Sam fine a dog in the back of a cave and gives it to Adam. Then Sam leaves to go get a deed to prove they own the land. But then these gold hunters start trying to hurt the family while Sam is gone.
