Perky and fun, this is an excellent twist to the sleeping beauty fairytale.

Truly a wonderful book. It brings in hints of classic fairy tales like Hansel and Gretel and yet strays so far from tradition with a princess who can't be affected by magic in any shape or form. It's a unique book, and the three sequels are equally as good, bringing back all of the fantastical elements that you can find from the original.
Annie is a free-spirited highly likable character who isn't a traditional "by-the-book" princess. She is humorous and brave, and isn't afraid of doing what it takes to save her kingdom.
It's also one of the great books where romance is the subplot, and it's subtle yet there. It's appropriate for children of all ages and can easily be enjoyed by everyone. We need to give a big round of applause to E. D. Baker for making such a good book!

Amazing book!!!

I enjoyed Wide-Awake princess. Annie is non-magical and authentic in a world full of fake people. Magic can't touch her, and anyone who comes close loses their glossy magical facade, so she is incredibly unpopular (even with her own family).
Fortunately, her non-magicalness is exactly what the kingdom needs when Sleeping Beauty and the rest of the castle fall prey to the nasty fairy's curse.
So Annie heads off to collect princes from neighboring kingdoms who might be able to wake her sister, and gets herself (and her guard) out of all kinds of dangerous situations along the way.
I can't overstate how awesome it was to get to the end of the book and realize that Annie did not resign herself to helplessness even once! Sure, she allowed others to help her, but she was never a damsel in distress and she never 'got rescued'.
There is a hint of romance in the story, but it's very safe and sweet. A great modern fairy tale for young girls - and some not so young ;)

I loved this book! The characters are fun and believable, yet special in there own ways. I only wish that they wouldn't of rushed the book so much. They were trying to fit so many fairy tales into one book, and I think that this book would have been better if they had slowed it down a bit, and possible made it into a series instead of the one book. I still can't wait for the sequel to come into the library, Unlocking the Spell. Overall this book was fun, jam packing and exciting.

best book ever

I loved this book! Sleeping Beauty's little sister is impervious to magic and so when the whole castle falls alseep it's up to her to find a prince to wake her sister up! Baker blends in many other fairy tales and there's lots of madcap adventures! Also Annie has one of the best heroine's voices I've come across in awhile. This is a must-read if you like fairy tales, humor, and do-it-yourself heroines! Can't wait to read the sequel which is out on shelves now!
