The book is better than the audiobook. I wish the publisher would stop allowing the author to narrate this series. Colfer's accents are atrocious. I'd rather he just use his own voice and enunciate more. Note to Colfer: Dorothy is from Kansas. Kansas is in the Midwest, not the South. Her accent should be Midwestern, not Southern. Note to reader: skip the audiobook, but do pick up the book, which is a fun, funny homage to fairy tales. Book = 3 1/2 stars. Audiobook = 2 1/2 stars.
Perfect for grade 3-6. My 7-year-old son loves the series. Chris Colfer did a great job, actually two great jobs, writing it and reading it.
This is a great series! Read by the author, Chris Colfer (of Glee fame) it's funny, exciting and adventuresome. Read 'The Land of Stories, the Wishing Spell' first to get a real sense of the characters. In this title, the Evil Enchantress, Esmia returns to wreck havoc on the fairytale world. These could so easily be hokey or silly, but the author blends the ridiculous in a way that makes the humour and adventures work really well.
